I have a life. Kinda.
I was originally born in Edinburgh, but grew up in west Fife where I still happily reside. I may be in my late-twenties, but I have lived in four decades, two centuries, and two millennia. Not bad eh? Old enough to remember a time without the internet. I can even remember having a walkman. Analogue rules until it chews up your favourite tape...
I have a number of hobbies and creative interests which range from building computers, photography and kendo. Music however, is more than a mere career objective, passion, or hobby. "For me, music is the closest thing to religion." - Ray Phiri. The reason for this seems obvious to me; I've been around musicians and music for so long it has woven itself into the texture of my cognitive fabric. I starting playing and performing as a wee-ane in primary school, eventually taking it as far as university where I attained a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. While I still really enjoy performing when the opportunity arises, its playing in the studio as a guitarist, song writer, composer and arranger where I best find my flow.
I'm continuously studying music as intensely as I can; whenever I can, and I continue to discover new ways of thinking about, exploring and developing my craft. My musical taste has no barriers and I can claim to take a small slice out of Quincy's cake when he says "there are only two categories of music, good and bad. Music, is Music." Everything from Naughty by Nature to Vivaldi, Charlie Parker to Van Halen, Chic to Nick Drake make an appearance in my playlists. That being said, I have a hefty bias towards most music from the 80's. What a decade. Hair. Guitar. Repeat.
The past year has seen me perform in "Iamesh Malkovich & the Secret Collective." An international scratch band which had performances at the 2016 Lush Creative Showcase in London, and as part of the Gorilla Volume IV tour which took us to London, Edinburgh, and Dallas, Texas. The group has also recorded several tracks on the triple vinyl "The Self Preservation Society," a prog covers album released on the ECC Records label. I am also composing and recording original music for the upcoming "Samples of Society," a documentary which is due to be released next year as part of the Gorilla Volume IV Story.
